by John Stamas: It was Tuesday, June 22 at 8:00 p.m. here in New York City and I watched the unfolding of the much anticipated 112th Salute to Magic on Zoom. As this occurred, it struck me that the show’s producer, Sterling Lee, had surprised me again. No, it was not that Las Vegas legend Wayne Newton did the introduction to the show, although this was startling and fun indeed. My surprise had to do with the realization that this year’s happening marked yet another first.
Douglas Leferovich has come a long way from the days when he and his brother Johnny would tag along to Parent Assembly meetings in Manhattan with their dad, John.
Doug, Johnny, and John formed a magic act — Magic by the 3Ls — and performed frequently for parties, company picnics, and other events. The experience of attending Assembly meetings and receiving feedback from more experienced magicians gave the budding conjurors an extra degree of knowledge, refinement, and depth.
Douglas Leferovich is best known in the role of “Lefty” in Murray SawChuck’s comedy and magic residency at the Laugh Factory at the Tropicana and he’s been working and performing with SawChuck for seven years. But the veteran magician, director and consultant has been working in Las Vegas for 18 years and has been incredibly busy as of late.
Douglas LEFTY Leferovich steps in as guest columnist for celebrity reporter Robin Leach, in his weekly entertainment column featured in the Las Vegas Review Journal newspaper. Robin has dubbed Douglas Leferovich the “show doctor,” as Douglas does a lot of work behind the scenes form lighting design to creative director to graphic and video designer for shows up and down the Las Vegas Strip.
I got to perform with Murray for the Alice Cooper Christmas Pudding Show. I was fortunate enough to share the stage with Alice Cooper; raising the dead with his fellow Hollywood Vampires, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry, along with Sammy Hagar and KORN.
The WSJ did a feature article on afternoon shows in Las Vegas, and one of the shows they featured was the show I am the guest act in, MURRAY: Celebrity Magician at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Special thanks to Murray for including me in the photo shoot.
I recently helped Jennifer Romas create some custom graphics and video element to help celebrate her 400th show of SEXXY at the Westgate Resort & Casino.

On March 7th, I received the Merlin Award for Best Sleight of Hand Artist for 2016. The award was presented during the Murray: Celebrity Magician’s show at 4pm inside the Sin City Theater on the mezzanine level of Planet Hollywood.
On this particular one episode, Murray Sawchuck brings me to Hollywood Blvd. to do some street magic for tourists. Since I am from New York, I did a lot of street magic back in the day. Street magic is about demanding people’s attention and it has a “real” and “gritty” factor that is similar to escapes.
Murray and I do a two person card trick, where we both have a spectator select a card. The finale is that they match, but not totally different than you might think.
On episode 106, I was featured doing my paper balls over the head with a volunteer on Hollywood Blvd. The main technique that I use in this routine is “misdirection” and how it can fool an audience member. Ironically, the volunteer is fooled throughout the routine, while the rest of the audience is in on the secret, as they can clearly see what is happening.
Each one-hour episode of Extreme Escapes brings the shock, wonder and danger of escapology to television with astonishing performances. On this particular one episode, before Murray Sawchuck performs an escape, Murray brings me to Hollywood Blvd. to do some street magic for tourists. On this episode I perform three card effects.

I had a blast as “guest host” on Valley View Live! I was joined by the incredible Dao Vu and Rikki Cheese who really make hosting look easy. We got discuss the six year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death (and I shared a story when I was fortunate enough to perform for Michael Jackson as his Neverland Ranch), Uber in Vegas, custom wine labels that reflect the mood your in, and this years sunglasses trends with Zar Zanganeh.
