On Tour in Australia

For the first two weeks of September, I was fortunate to go on tour with Murray’s show to Australia. After almost 15 hours of travel, we arrived at our first spot of the tour, Melbourne. We were working with international producers Dion and Randall Productions (http://www.dionandrandall.com), whose headquarters is located in Melbourne. Our first show in Australia was at the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex in downtown Melbourne. The theater named “The Palms” is a multi-layered auditorium with seating for 800 people. The Palms at Crown has been home to a cavalcade of world class performers including comedians – Jason Alexander, Wayne Brady and Martin Short; music icons – Alice Cooper, Chris Isaak and Jimmy Barnes; and brilliant musicals – Burn the Floor, Buddy and Abba Mania. My first order of business, was to design a basic set look for the show. Using 6 free standing vertical trusses, along with LED lights positioned at their bases, along with MAC moving lights between each truss, this created our stage look for the entire show. On tour in Australia, I got to perform three pieces in the show, my signature card manipulation routine, my floating ball routine, and my toilet paper over the head routine which involves a member of the audience.

The next day we traveled 4 hours away by tour bus to the Commercial Club in Albury. This was a more intimate theater that held 500 people.

Following our shows in Australia, we took a bit of break from working to spend some leisure time in Sydney. We got to see some kangaroos and koalas along with a tour of the world famous Sydney Opera House.

Due to the overwhelming positive response from the shows we performed in Australia, we are planning to return in the Spring of 2014.
